Michael E. Williams, MD currently serves as the director of the Hematologic Malignancy Program in the University of Virginia Cancer Center and chief of the Hematology Section of the Hematology/Oncology Division. He received his medical degree from University of Cincinnati College of Medicine and a master of science in microbiology from the Harvard School of Public Health. He completed his medicine residency, chief residency, and fellowship in hematology/oncology at the University of Virginia Health System in Charlottesville, where he joined the faculty in 1986.
Dr Williams’ research interests are in the pathogenesis and immunotherapy of non-Hodgkin lymphoma and CLL, and in developing new therapeutic approaches in hematologic malignancies. He serves on the Scientific Advisory Board of the Lymphoma Research Foundation, as chair of the Executive Committee for the LRF Mantle Cell Lymphoma Consortium, and is a member of the Scientific Advisory Group of the European Mantle Cell Lymphoma Network. Dr Williams is a member of the ECOG Lymphoma Core Committee and the Hematology Subspecialty Board of the American Board of Internal Medicine, and participates regularly in regional and national programs devoted to lymphoma education and research.
