Statement of Need
Given the availability of multiple treatment options, several questions emerge as to how to incorporate new therapies into the management of relapsed/refractory RCC: Is there an optimal agent, sequence, or combination of therapies? Is there a role for cytokine therapy in the current treatment paradigm for RCC? Are these agents active in non–clear cell RCC? Most importantly, can cure rates be improved when therapies are used earlier in the disease (neoadjuvant or adjuvant therapy)? Ongoing and planned clinical trials hope to provide insight into many of these questions. This educational initiative will provide participants with a review of the most recent advances in the treatment of renal cell carcinoma, including updates and outcomes of ongoing or recently published clinical trials, controversies, and research questions that have arisen as a result as well as consider some of the management issues that remain, all assimilated into a concise learning opportunity by experts in the field. The state-of-the-art strategies our experts will discuss will provide practitioners with the information needed to integrate therapeutic strategies into their patient care decisions. The end result will be to provide expertise to the oncology healthcare practitioner in order to improve outcomes for patients with renal cell carcinoma while minimizing adverse events and maintaining or improving patient overall quality of life.

Target Audience
The intended audience for this initiative is medical oncologists, hematologist-oncologists, urologists, pathologists, and allied healthcare professionals caring for patients with renal cell carcinoma.

Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this educational program, participants should be better able to:
Discuss current treatment standards in the management of advanced renal cell carcinoma
Discuss the clinical implications of the results of pivotal clinical trials, including early phase trials, that have potential to impact the use of novel therapies
Analyze potential treatment strategies and ongoing clinical trial designs for incorporating novel therapies in the treatment of renal cell carcinoma, including novel combinations
Describe future treatment and adverse event management strategies and clinical trials needed to advance therapeutic progress in renal cell carcinoma
