James O. Armitage, MD is currently the Joe Shapiro Professor of Medicine at the University of Nebraska Medical Center. He is board certified in internal medicine, medical oncology, and hematology, and is a fellow of both the American and Royal College of Physicians. Dr Armitage is a graduate of the University of Nebraska Medical Center. Dr Armitage completed his internship and residency in internal medicine at Nebraska, a fellowship in hematology oncology at the University of Iowa, and a brief stint in private practice in Omaha. He developed and directed the Bone Marrow Transplant program at the University of Iowa, and later at the University of Nebraska. He served as vice-chair of Internal Medicine, chair of the Department of Internal Medicine, and dean of the College of Medicine.
Dr Armitage is a past member of the National Cancer Advisory Board, past president of the American Society of Clinical Oncology (1996-97) and American Society for Blood and Marrow Transplantation (2000-01). He has authored or coauthored 440 articles, 95 book chapters, more than 450 abstracts, and is the editor/co-editor of 24 books.
