Shaji Kumar, MD is an associate professor in the department of internal medicine and a consultant in the division of hematology at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. He has been a faculty member in the division of hematology at Mayo Clinic since 2005. He received his medical degree from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences in New Delhi, India. He completed his residencies in internal medicine at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences and the Mayo Graduate School of Medicine and fellowships in hematology and oncology at the Mayo Clinic and Dana-Farber Cancer Center in Boston, Massachusetts.

Dr Kumar’s clinical interests include plasma cell proliferative disorders and stem cell transplantation. His laboratory focuses on understanding the interaction between tumor cells and the microenvironment and development of novel targeted therapy for myeloma and related disorders.

Dr Kumar serves on the Mayo Foundation Institutional Review Board, the Mayo Clinic Hematology Education Committee and Clinical Practice Committee. In addition he is on the editorial board for the American Journal of Hematology. Dr Kumar has published numerous peer-reviewed manuscripts, review articles, book chapters and abstracts, and has received a number of awards including the William Summerskill Award from the Mayo Clinic and a merit Award from the American Society of Clinical Oncology.
