Richard A. Larson, MD is professor of medicine and a member of the University of Chicago Cancer Research Center at the University of Chicago in Chicago, Illinois. Dr Larson received his medical degree from Stanford University School of Medicine in Stanford, California. He completed his residency in internal medicine and a fellowship in hematology and oncology at the University of Chicago.
Dr Larson’s clinical research includes the etiology of therapy-related leukemia, determinants of response to therapy in leukemia and myelodysplastic syndromes, and hematopoietic stem cell transplantation. Dr Larson is chair of the Leukemia Committee of the Cancer and Leukemia Group B, where he directs a large portfolio of clinical trials and ancillary laboratory studies in acute and chronic leukemias and myeloma.
Dr Larson is a councilor on the executive committee for the American Society of Hematology. He is actively involved in a number of professional societies including the American Society of Hematology, the American Society of Clinical Oncology, and the American Association for Cancer Research. Dr Larson has published numerous original manuscripts, review articles, and book chapters on clinical and laboratory studies in human leukemias.
