Francisco J. Esteva, MD, PhD is director of the Breast Cancer Translational Research Laboratory and professor in the Departments of Breast Medical Oncology and Molecular and Cellular Oncology at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center. Dr Esteva received his MD and PhD degrees from the University of Zaragoza School of Medicine in Spain. After earning his MD, Dr Esteva was accepted at Cooper Hospital/University Medical Center in Camden, New Jersey for a residency in internal medicine. He continued on to Georgetown University Medical Center in Washington, DC for a clinical fellowship in medical oncology at Georgetown University. Dr Esteva is a fellow of the American College of Physicians and is board certified in medical oncology.

Dr Esteva is a respected academic speaker with invited presentations at hospitals and research institutions, as well as national and international meetings. Dr Esteva is actively involved in clinical and translational research as a principal investigator. His research is focused on the biology and treatment of breast cancer. Dr Esteva’s work has appeared in peer-reviewed journals such as the Journal of Clinical Oncology, Cancer Research, and Clinical Cancer Research. He received the National Cancer Institute’s Patient-Oriented Research Career Development Award.
